A checklist for SMBs
The risks to SMBs from Cyber Attacks continue at pace. Recently, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) noted there’s around a 1 in 2 chance you will experience a cyber security breach. For larger SMBs the average cost is in the region of £8K to £10K per incident.
As a business owner or a manager, managing your cyber security risk can seem daunting and we appreciate that it’s one of the many challenges you juggle daily.
“We’ll just get our IT person or our IT supplier to sort it out!” is a sentiment we often hear but protecting your business against cyber-attacks isn’t just the responsibility of your IT person or supplier, it is the responsibility of everyone in your business.
In fact, we’d encourage you to think along the same lines as Health and Safety in your business. Good health and safety practices involve:
- People – All staff are required to know the basic health and safety do’s and don’ts
- Process – Your business will follow the general principles of the health and safety at work act and depending on what you do, this will be supplemented by additional processes.
- Technology – At a basic level you’ll have; Fire Alarms, Smoke Detectors, First Aid Kits etc.
If you take the same approach to Cyber Security, you’ll be on the right path to protecting your business.
Our simple infographic aims to get you started with 3 easy tips in each of the above areas; People, Process and Technology. These tips are not exhaustive and there is a lot more to consider, but we hope they will prompt your business to think about the issues and how cyber security is managed in your business.
